The Paint Workshop Roadmap (The P's of Success)

A comprehensive task list covering planning, promotion, execution, and post-workshop follow-up.

Painting & Drawing, Illustration

3 hour Workshops; 1 additional hour social and refreshment time. Art in the park enviornments. I'll provide Art supplies and Refreshments. But true I'm just starting out. My mission is community and so community, help me out, pack it in and pack it out. Bring blankets (I'll bring painting plastic), foldable tables and chairs, water and aprons are advisble. No donations needed thank you. We will make our own envionment a collective one.

Ms. E and I will be teaching classes. She is educated in Art and Education. Her formal training intertwined with her own flare of realsm and abstract compliments my life is good approach having learned from classes I've attended, mentors and my own spin on Art. Vibrant colors and texturing are my favorites. I've also learned from the best painter in the world Bob Ross.

The famous TV painter with an afro is Bob Ross, known for his PBS show The Joy of Painting. He was a beloved television personality famous for his soothing voice, calm demeanor, and signature "happy little trees" and "happy little clouds". His distinctive afro was the result of a perm he got to save money on haircuts during his time in the Air Force before his art career.

Acrylic Painting: Highly versatile, fast-drying, water-based, and easy to clean up. It's a popular choice for "paint-and-sip" style events and works on various surfaces, including canvas. Watercolor Painting: Extremely portable with minimal required equipment (just water, paints, and paper). It's great for capturing nature scenes and landscapes, though controlling water flow requires a bit of practice. Gouache: A water-based medium like watercolor, but it dries opaque like acrylic, offering a nice middle ground for bold, flat colors. Sketching and Drawing: Simple and low-mess options using pencils, pens, charcoal, or graphite sticks. Participants can focus on observing nature, practicing line work, or trying shadow drawing exercises. Pastels (Chalk and Oil): Portable, vibrant, and tactile, requiring no water or brushes. They can be a little messy, but cleanup is simple, making them a fun, low-pressure option for beginners. Plein Air Oil Painting (Water-Mixable): For a more traditional "plein air" experience, water-mixable oil paints offer the richness of oils without the need for toxic solvents for cleanup. Nature-Based & Craft Arts Textures: Nature Collages and Sculptures: Participants can collect natural materials found in the park (leaves, twigs, dirt, flowers) to create temporary sculptures or collages on paper. Nature Printing: Using collected natural items like leaves or flowers to create prints on paper or fabric using watercolor or block printing ink. Botanical Art: Focusing on detailed studies of plant life using various drawing or painting mediums. Writing & Poetry: A non-visual art form that uses the park setting for inspiration for creative writing, screenwriting, or poetry workshops. Portability: Choose mediums and equipment that are easy to transport to and from the park. Cleanup: Opt for water-based or dry mediums to ensure easy, minimal cleanup without special solvents. Weather Conditions: Be mindful of wind (which can quickly dry acrylics or blow lightweight materials) and humidity (which can affect watercolor drying times). Surfaces: Paved areas work well for sidewalk chalk, while tables and easels are needed for other mediums.

Phase 1: Planning and Preparation

P's—planning and practice—because winging it probably won’t cut it. Your upfront preparation will pay off in the long run.

  • Define Goals & Audience: Determine specific techniques (e.g., color theory, landscape) and the target skill level (beginners, intermediate).
  • Develop Content & Curriculum: Outline a step-by-step lesson plan with clear "tasks for the day." Create a sample painting to guide the process.
  • Logistics & Venue: Secure a well-lit location, set the date/duration, and establish clear pricing and cancellation policies.
  • Materials & Equipment: Compile a detailed supply list for participants (easels, tables, brushes, etc.) and plan for refreshments.
  • Practice Run: Call a friend to walk through demonstrations, time yourself, and write down necessary refinements.

Phase 2 & 3: Promotion & Execution

From captivating sign-ups to running a seamless event.

  • Promotional Materials: Create eye-catching digital content featuring all workshop details.
  • Promotion Channels: Utilize social media, email newsletters, and registration platforms to manage sign-ups.
  • Communication: Clearly communicate expectations and any pre-workshop tasks or supply requirements.
  • Setup & Welcome: Arrive early, organize supplies, and greet participants with a warm introduction and housekeeping rules.
  • Instruction & Engagement: Provide clear demonstrations, circulate to offer individual guidance, and adapt to needs.
  • Documentation: Capture photos and videos (with consent) of the process and final artwork for future marketing.

Phase 4: Post-Workshop Follow-Up

The cleanup and feedback loop that fuels future success.

  • Cleanup & Feedback: Thoroughly clean the venue and gather structured feedback from participants to identify improvements.
  • Follow-up Communication: Thank participants via email and share event photos/videos. Provide any promised resources for further learning.
  • Future Planning: Use all experience and feedback gained to plan your next unique workshop offering.
